Samuel said to Saul, “Yahweh sent me to anoint you to be king over his people, over Israel. Now therefore listen to the voice of Yahweh’s words.

ܗܟܢܐ ܐܡܪ ܡܪܝܐ ܨܒܐܘܬ ܕܟܝܪ ܐܢܐ ܡܕܡ ܕܥܒܕ ܥܡܠܝܩ ܠܐܝܣܪܝܠ ܒܐܘܪܚܐ ܟܕ ܣܠܩܝܢ ܗܘܘ ܡܢ ܡܨܪܝܢ

Yahweh of Armies says, ‘I remember what Amalek did to Israel, how he set himself against him on the way when he came up out of Egypt.

ܗܫܐ ܙܠ ܚܪܘܒ ܠܚܛܝܐ ܥܡܠܝܩ ܘܐܘܒܕ ܠܟܠ ܕܐܝܬ ܠܗܘܢ ܘܠܐ ܬܚܘܣ ܥܠܝܗܘܢ ܘܩ̇ܛܠ ܡܢ ܓܒܪ̈ܐ ܘܥܕܡܐ ܠܢܫ̈ܐ ܘܡܢ ܥ̈ܠܝܡܐ ܘܥܕܡܐ ܠܝ̈ܠܘܕܐ ܘܡܢ ܬܘܪ̈ܐ ܘܥܕܡܐ ܠܐܡܪ̈ܐ ܘܡܢ ܓܡ̈ܠܐ ܘܥܕܡܐ ܠܚܡܪ̈ܐ
lkhmr' wedm' gml' wmn l'mr' wedm' thwr' wmn lylwd' wedm' elym' wmn lnsh' wedm' gbr' mn wqTl elyhwn thkhws wl' lhwn d'yth lkl w'wbd emlyq lkhTy' khrwb zl hsh'
Now go and strike Amalek, and utterly destroy all that they have, and don’t spare them; but kill both man and woman, infant and nursing baby, ox and sheep, camel and donkey.’”

ܘܐܫܡܥ ܫܐܘܠ ܠܟܠܗ ܥܡܐ ܠܩܪܒܐ ܘܡܢܐ ܐܢܘܢ ܒ̈ܛܠܝܐ ܡܐ̈ܬܝܢ ܐ̈ܠܦܝܢ ܪ̈ܓܠܝܐ ܘܥܣܪܐ ܐ̈ܠܦܝܢ ܥܡ ܓܒܪ̈ܐ ܕܝܗܘܕܐ
dyhwd' gbr' em 'lpyn wesr' rgly' 'lpyn m'thyn bTly' 'nwn wmn' lqrb' em' lklh sh'wl w'shme
Saul summoned the people, and counted them in Telaim, two hundred thousand footmen and ten thousand men of Judah.

ܘܐܬܐ ܫܐܘܠ ܥܕܡܐ ܠܩܪܝܬܐ ܕܥܡܠܝܩ ܘܕܢ ܒܢܚܠܐ

Saul came to the city of Amalek, and set an ambush in the valley.

ܘܐܡܪ ܫܐܘܠ ܠܩܝܢ̈ܝܐ ܣܛܘ ܘܙܠܘ ܘܚܘܬܘ ܡܢ ܓܘ ܥܡ̈ܠܩܝܐ ܕܠܐ ܐܘܒܕܟܘܢ ܥܡܗܘܢ ܘܐܢܬܘܢ ܥܒܕܬܘܢ ܛܝܒܘܬܐ ܥܡ ܟܠܗܘܢ ܕܒܝܬ ܐܝܣܪܝܠ ܟܕ ܣܠܩܝܢ ܗܘܘ ܡܢ ܡܨܪܝܢ ܘܣܛܘ ܩܝܢ̈ܝܐ ܡܢ ܓܘ ܥܡܠܩ̈ܝܐ

Saul said to the Kenites, “Go, depart, go down from among the Amalekites, lest I destroy you with them; for you showed kindness to all the children of Israel when they came up out of Egypt.” So the Kenites departed from among the Amalekites.

ܘܡܚܐ ܫܐܘܠ ܠܥܡܠܝܩ ܡܢ ܚܘܝܠܐ ܕܒܡܥܠܢܐ ܕܫܘܕ ܕܩܕܡ ܡܨܪܝܢ

Saul struck the Amalekites, from Havilah as you go to Shur, which is before Egypt.

ܘܐܚܕ ܠܐܓܓ ܡܠܟܐ ܕܥܡܠܝܩ ܟܕ ܚܝ ܘܠܟܠܗ ܥܡܐ ܐܘܒܕ ܒܦܘܡܐ ܕܚܪܒܐ
dkhrb' bpwm' 'wbd em' wlklh khy kd demlyq mlk' l'gg w'khd
He took Agag the king of the Amalekites alive, and utterly destroyed all the people with the edge of the sword.

ܘܚܣ ܫܐܘܠ ܘܥܡܐ ܥܠ ܐܓܓ ܡܠܟܐ ܘܥܠ ܫܘܦܪܐ ܕܥܢܐ ܘܕܬܘܪ̈ܐ ܘܕܫܡ̈ܝܢܐ ܘܕܡ̈ܦܛܡܐ ܘܥܠ ܟܠܗ̇ ܛܒܬܐ ܘܠܐ ܨܒܘ ܕܢܚܪܒܘܢ ܐܢܘܢ ܘܟܠܗ̇ ܥܒܝܕܬܐ ܕܫܝܛܐ ܘܡܣܠܝܐ ܒܥܝܢ̈ܝܗܘܢ ܠܗ̇ ܐܘܒܕܘ
'wbdw lh beynyhwn wmsly' dshyT' ebydth' wklh 'nwn dnkhrbwn tsbw wl' Tbth' klh wel wdmpTm' wdshmyn' wdthwr' den' shwpr' wel mlk' 'gg el wem' sh'wl wkhs
But Saul and the people spared Agag and the best of the sheep, of the cattle, of the fat calves, of the lambs, and all that was good, and were not willing to utterly destroy them; but everything that was vile and refuse, that they destroyed utterly.

ܘܗܘܐ ܦܬܓܡܗ ܕܡܪܝܐ ܥܠ ܫܡܘܐܝܠ ܠܡܐܡܪ

Then Yahweh’s word came to Samuel, saying,

ܐܬܬܘܝܬ ܕܐܡܠܟܬ ܠܫܐܘܠ ܡܠܟܐ ܕܗܦܟ ܡܢ ܒܬܪܝ ܘܡ̈ܠܝ ܠܐ ܐܩܝܡ ܘܐܬܒܐܫ ܠܫܡܘܐܝܠ ܘܨܠܝ ܩܕܡ ܡܪܝܐ ܟܠܗ ܠܠܝܐ
lly' klh mry' qdm wtsly lshmw'yl w'thb'sh 'qym l' wmly bthry mn dhpk mlk' lsh'wl d'mlkth 'ththwyth
“It grieves me that I have set up Saul to be king, for he has turned back from following me, and has not performed my commandments.” Samuel was angry; and he cried to Yahweh all night.

ܘܩܕܡ ܫܡܘܐܝܠ ܒܨܦܪܐ ܠܐܘܪܥܗ ܕܫܐܘܠ ܘܐܬܚܘܝ ܠܫܡܘܐܝܠ ܕܐܬܐ ܫܐܘܠ ܠܟܪܡܠܐ ܘܗܐ ܡܬܩܢ ܠܗ ܐܬܪܐ ܘܐܬܦܢܝ ܘܥܒܪ ܘܢܚܬ ܠܓܠܓܠܐ

Samuel rose early to meet Saul in the morning; and Samuel was told, saying, “Saul came to Carmel, and behold, he set up a monument for himself, turned, passed on, and went down to Gilgal.”

ܘܐܬܐ ܫܡܘܐܝܠ ܠܘܬ ܫܐܘܠ ܘܐܡܪ ܠܗ ܫܐܘܠ ܒܪܝܟ ܗܘ ܡܪܝܐ ܕܐܩܝܡ ܦܬܓܡܗ
pthgmh d'qym mry' hw bryk sh'wl lh w'mr sh'wl lwth shmw'yl w'th'
Samuel came to Saul; and Saul said to him, “You are blessed by Yahweh! I have performed the commandment of Yahweh.”

ܘܐܡܪ ܫܡܘܐܝܠ ܠܫܐܘܠ ܡܢܘ ܩܠܐ ܗܢܐ ܕܥܢܐ ܒܐ̈ܕܢܝ ܘܩܠܐ ܕܬܘܪ̈ܐ ܫܡܥ ܐܢܐ
'n' shme dthwr' wql' b'dny den' hn' ql' mnw lsh'wl shmw'yl w'mr
Samuel said, “Then what does this bleating of the sheep in my ears and the lowing of the cattle which I hear mean?”

ܘܐܡܪ ܫܐܘܠ ܡܢ ܥܡܠܝܩ ܐܝܬܝܘ ܐܢܘܢ ܕܚܣ ܥܡܐ ܥܠ ܫܘܦܪܐ ܕܥܢܐ ܘܕܬܘܪ̈ܐ ܘܐܝܬܝܘ ܕܢܕܒܚܘܢ ܠܡܪܝܐ ܐܠܗܟ ܘܫܪܟܐ ܚܪܒܢ
khrbn wshrk' 'lhk lmry' dndbkhwn w'ythyw wdthwr' den' shwpr' el em' dkhs 'nwn 'ythyw emlyq mn sh'wl w'mr
Saul said, “They have brought them from the Amalekites; for the people spared the best of the sheep and of the cattle, to sacrifice to Yahweh your God. We have utterly destroyed the rest.”

ܘܐܡܪ ܫܡܘܐܝܠ ܠܫܐܘܠ ܫܬܘܩ ܐܚܘܝܟ ܡܕܡ ܕܐܡܪ ܠܝ ܡܪܝܐ ܒܠܠܝܐ ܘܐܡܪ ܠܗ ܫܐܘܠ ܐܡܪ
'mr sh'wl lh w'mr blly' mry' ly d'mr mdm 'khwyk shthwq lsh'wl shmw'yl w'mr
Then Samuel said to Saul, “Stay, and I will tell you what Yahweh said to me last night.” He said to him, “Say on.”

ܘܐܡܪ ܫܡܘܐܝܠ ܠܫܐܘܠ ܗܐ ܐܢ ܙܥܘܪܐ ܐܢܬ ܒܥܝܢ̈ܝܟ ܪܝܫ ܫܒ̈ܛܐ ܐܢܬ ܕܐܝܣܪܝܠ ܘܡܫܚܟ ܡܪܝܐ ܕܬܡܠܟ ܥܠ ܐܝܣܪܝܠ
'ysryl el dthmlk mry' wmshkhk d'ysryl 'nth shbT' rysh beynyk 'nth zewr' 'n h' lsh'wl shmw'yl w'mr
Samuel said, “Though you were little in your own sight, weren’t you made the head of the tribes of Israel? Yahweh anointed you king over Israel;

ܘܫܕܪܟ ܡܪܝܐ ܒܐܘܪܚܐ ܘܐܡܪ ܙܠ ܚܪܘܒ ܠܚܛܝܐ ܥܡܠܝܩ ܘܐܬܟܬܫ ܥܡܗܘܢ ܥܕܡܐ ܕܬܓܡܪ ܐܢܘܢ
'nwn dthgmr edm' emhwn w'thkthsh emlyq lkhTy' khrwb zl w'mr b'wrkh' mry' wshdrk
and Yahweh sent you on a journey, and said, ‘Go, and utterly destroy the sinners the Amalekites, and fight against them until they are consumed.’

ܐܝܟܘ ܠܐ ܫܡܥܬ ܒܩܠܗ ܕܡܪܝܐ ܐܠܐ ܐܬܦܢܝܬ ܥܠ ܒܙܬܐ ܘܥܒܕܬ ܕܒܝܫ ܩܕܡ ܡܪܝܐ
mry' qdm dbysh webdth bzth' el 'thpnyth 'l' dmry' bqlh shmeth l' 'ykw
Why then didn’t you obey Yahweh’s voice, but took the plunder, and did that which was evil in Yahweh’s sight?”

ܘܐܡܪ ܫܐܘܠ ܠܫܡܘܐܝܠ ܫܡܥܬ ܒܩܠܗ ܕܡܪܝܐ ܘܐܙܠܬ ܒܐܘܪܚܐ ܕܫܕܪܢܝ ܘܐܝܬܝܬ ܠܐܓܓ ܡܠܟܐ ܕܥܡܠܝܩ ܘܠܥܡ̈ܠܩܝܐ ܐܘܒܕܬ
'wbdth wlemlqy' demlyq mlk' l'gg w'ythyth dshdrny b'wrkh' w'zlth dmry' bqlh shmeth lshmw'yl sh'wl w'mr
Saul said to Samuel, “But I have obeyed Yahweh’s voice, and have gone the way which Yahweh sent me, and have brought Agag the king of Amalek, and have utterly destroyed the Amalekites.

ܘܕܒܪ ܥܡܐ ܡܢ ܒܙܬܐ ܥܢܐ ܘܬܘܪ̈ܐ ܪܫܝܬܐ ܚܪܡܐ ܕܢܕܒܚܘܢ ܠܡܪܝܐ ܐܠܗܟ ܒܓܠܓܠܐ
bglgl' 'lhk lmry' dndbkhwn khrm' rshyth' wthwr' en' bzth' mn em' wdbr
But the people took of the plunder, sheep and cattle, the best of the devoted things, to sacrifice to Yahweh your God in Gilgal.”

ܘܐܡܪ ܫܡܘܐܝܠ ܠܐ ܨܒܐ ܡܪܝܐ ܒ̈ܥܠܘܬܐ ܘܒܕܒ̈ܚܐ ܐܝܟ ܡܢ ܕܫܡܥ ܒܩܠܗ ܗܐ ܫܡܥܐ ܡܢ ܕܒܚ̈ܐ ܛܒ ܘܠܡܨܬ ܡܢ ܬܪܒܐ ܕܕܟܪ̈ܐ
ddkr' thrb' mn wlmtsth Tb dbkh' mn shme' h' bqlh dshme mn 'yk wbdbkh' belwth' mry' tsb' l' shmw'yl w'mr
Samuel said, “Has Yahweh as great delight in burnt offerings and sacrifices, as in obeying Yahweh’s voice? Behold, to obey is better than sacrifice, and to listen than the fat of rams.

ܡܛܘܠ ܕܚܛܝܬܗ ܕܩܨܡܐ ܡܡܪܡܪܢܘܬܐ ܘܩܨܡܐ ܥܘܠܐ ܡܥܫܢܐ ܥܠ ܕܐܣܠܝܬ ܡܠܬܗ ܕܡܪܝܐ ܢܣܠܝܟ ܡܢ ܡܠܟܘܬܐ
mlkwth' mn nslyk dmry' mlthh d'slyth el meshn' ewl' wqtsm' mmrmrnwth' dqtsm' dkhTythh mTwl
For rebellion is as the sin of witchcraft, and stubbornness is as idolatry and teraphim. Because you have rejected Yahweh’s word, he has also rejected you from being king.”

ܘܐܡܪ ܫܐܘܠ ܠܫܡܘܐܝܠ ܚܛܝܬ ܥܠ ܕܥܒܪܬ ܥܠ ܡܠܬ ܦܘܡܗ ܕܡܪܝܐ ܘܥܠ ܡ̈ܠܝܟ ܡܛܠ ܕܕܚܠܬ ܡܢ ܥܡܐ ܘܫܡܥܬ ܒܩܠܗܘܢ
bqlhwn wshmeth em' mn ddkhlth mTl mlyk wel dmry' pwmh mlth el debrth el khTyth lshmw'yl sh'wl w'mr
Saul said to Samuel, “I have sinned; for I have transgressed the commandment of Yahweh and your words, because I feared the people and obeyed their voice.

ܗܫܐ ܫܒܘܩ ܠܚܛܝܬܝ ܘܗܦܘܟ ܥܡܝ ܐܣܓܘܕ ܠܡܪܝܐ
lmry' 'sgwd emy whpwk lkhTythy shbwq hsh'
Now therefore, please pardon my sin, and turn again with me, that I may worship Yahweh.”

ܘܐܡܪ ܫܡܘܐܝܠ ܠܫܐܘܠ ܠܐ ܐܗܦܘܟ ܥܡܟ ܥܠ ܕܐܣܠܝܬ ܡܠܬܗ ܕܡܪܝܐ ܐܣܠܝܟ ܡܪܝܐ ܕܠܐ ܬܗܘܐ ܡܠܟܐ ܥܠ ܐܝܣܪܝܠ
'ysryl el mlk' thhw' dl' mry' 'slyk dmry' mlthh d'slyth el emk 'hpwk l' lsh'wl shmw'yl w'mr
Samuel said to Saul, “I will not return with you; for you have rejected Yahweh’s word, and Yahweh has rejected you from being king over Israel.”

ܘܐܬܦܢܝ ܫܡܘܐܝܠ ܠܡܐܙܠ ܘܐܚܕ ܫܐܘܠ ܒܟܢܦܐ ܕܦܪܝܣܗ ܘܨܪܝܗܝ
wtsryhy dprysh bknp' sh'wl w'khd lm'zl shmw'yl w'thpny
As Samuel turned around to go away, Saul grabbed the skirt of his robe, and it tore.

ܘܐܡܪ ܠܗ ܫܡܘܐܝܠ ܨܪܗ̇ ܡܪܝܐ ܡܠܟܘܬܐ ܕܐܝܣܪܝܠ ܡܢܟ ܝܘܡܢܐ ܘܝܗܒܗ̇ ܠܚܒܪܟ ܕܛܒ ܡܢܟ
mnk dTb lkhbrk wyhbh ywmn' mnk d'ysryl mlkwth' mry' tsrh shmw'yl lh w'mr
Samuel said to him, “Yahweh has torn the kingdom of Israel from you today, and has given it to a neighbor of yours who is better than you.

ܘܐܦ ܢܨܝܚܗ ܕܐܝܣܪܝܠ ܠܐ ܡܕܓܠ ܘܐܦ ܠܐ ܡܬܡܠܟ ܡܛܠ ܕܠܐ ܗܘܐ ܒܪ ܐܢܫܐ ܕܢܬܡܠܟ
dnthmlk 'nsh' br hw' dl' mTl mthmlk l' w'p mdgl l' d'ysryl ntsykhh w'p
Also the Strength of Israel will not lie nor repent; for he is not a man, that he should repent.”

ܘܐܡܪ ܫܐܘܠ ܚܛܝܬ ܗܫܐ ܝܩܪܝܢܝ ܩܕܡ ܣ̈ܒܐ ܕܥܡܝ ܘܩܕܡ ܐܝܣܪܝܠ ܘܗܦܘܟ ܥܡܝ ܐܣܓܘܕ ܠܡܪܝܐ ܐܠܗܟ
'lhk lmry' 'sgwd emy whpwk 'ysryl wqdm demy sb' qdm yqryny hsh' khTyth sh'wl w'mr
Then he said, “I have sinned; yet please honor me now before the elders of my people and before Israel, and come back with me, that I may worship Yahweh your God.”

ܘܗܦܟ ܫܡܘܐܝܠ ܒܬܪ ܫܐܘܠ ܘܣܓܕ ܫܐܘܠ ܠܡܪܝܐ
lmry' sh'wl wsgd sh'wl bthr shmw'yl whpk
So Samuel went back with Saul; and Saul worshiped Yahweh.

ܘܐܡܪ ܫܡܘܐܝܠ ܩܪܒܝܗܝ ܠܝ ܠܐܓܓ ܡܠܟܐ ܕܥܡܠܝܩ ܘܐܡܪ ܐܓܓ ܫܪܝܪܐܝܬ ܡܪܝܪ ܡܘܬܐ
mwth' mryr shryr'yth 'gg w'mr demlyq mlk' l'gg ly qrbyhy shmw'yl w'mr
Then Samuel said, “Bring Agag the king of the Amalekites here to me!” Agag came to him cheerfully. Agag said, “Surely the bitterness of death is past.”

ܘܐܡܪ ܫܡܘܐܝܠ ܐܝܟܢܐ ܕܓܙܝܬ ܢܫ̈ܐ ܚܪܒܟ ܗܟܢܐ ܬܓܙܐ ܐܡܟ ܡܢ ܢܫ̈ܐ ܘܦܫܚ ܫܡܘܐܝܠ ܠܐܓܓ ܡܠܟܐ ܩܕܡ ܡܪܝܐ ܒܓܠܓܠܐ
bglgl' mry' qdm mlk' l'gg shmw'yl wpshkh nsh' mn 'mk thgz' hkn' khrbk nsh' dgzyth 'ykn' shmw'yl w'mr
Samuel said, “As your sword has made women childless, so your mother will be childless among women!” Then Samuel cut Agag in pieces before Yahweh in Gilgal.

ܘܐܙܠ ܫܡܘܐܝܠ ܠܪܡܬܐ ܘܫܐܘܠ ܣܠܩ ܠܒܝܬܗ ܠܪܡܬܐ ܕܫܐܘܠ

Then Samuel went to Ramah; and Saul went up to his house to Gibeah of Saul.

ܘܠܐ ܐܘܣܦ ܬܘܒ ܫܡܘܐܝܠ ܠܡܚܙܝܗ ܠܫܐܘܠ ܥܕܡܐ ܠܝܘܡܐ ܕܡܝܬ ܡܛܠ ܕܐܬܐܒܠ ܫܡܘܐܝܠ ܥܠ ܫܐܘܠ ܘܡܪܝܐ ܐܬܬܘܝ ܥܠ ܕܐܡܠܟ ܠܫܐܘܠ ܥܠ ܐܝܣܪܝܠ
'ysryl el lsh'wl d'mlk el 'ththwy wmry' sh'wl el shmw'yl d'th'bl mTl dmyth lywm' edm' lsh'wl lmkhzyh shmw'yl thwb 'wsp wl'
Samuel came no more to see Saul until the day of his death, but Samuel mourned for Saul. Yahweh grieved that he had made Saul king over Israel.
