ואמר שמואל לשאול יתי שלח יי לרביותך למהוי מלכא על עמיה על ישראל וכען קבל למימר פתגמא דיי:
dyy pthgma lmymr qbl wken yshral el emyh el mlka lmhwy lrbywthk yy shlkh ythy lshawl shmwal wamr
Samuel said to Saul, “Yahweh sent me to anoint you to be king over his people, over Israel. Now therefore listen to the voice of Yahweh’s words.

כדנן אמר יי צבאות דכירנא ית דעבד עמלק לישראל דכמן ליה באורחא במיסקיה ממצרים:
mmtsrym bmysqyh bawrkha lyh dkmn lyshral emlq debd yth dkyrna tsbawth yy amr kdnn
Yahweh of Armies says, ‘I remember what Amalek did to Israel, how he set himself against him on the way when he came up out of Egypt.

וכען אזיל ותמחי ית דבית עמלק ותגמר ית כל די להון ולא תחוס עליהון ותקטול מגבר עד אתתא מעולים ועד יניק מתור ועד אימר מגמל ועד חמר:
khmr wed mgml aymr wed mthwr ynyq wed mewlym aththa ed mgbr wthqTwl elyhwn thkhws wla lhwn dy kl yth wthgmr emlq dbyth yth wthmkhy azyl wken
Now go and strike Amalek, and utterly destroy all that they have, and don’t spare them; but kill both man and woman, infant and nursing baby, ox and sheep, camel and donkey.’”

וכנש שאול ית עמא ומנינון באימרי פסחיא מאתן אלפין גברא רגלאי ועסרא אלפין ית אנש יהודה:
yhwdh ansh yth alpyn wesra rglay gbra alpyn mathn pskhya baymry wmnynwn ema yth shawl wknsh
Saul summoned the people, and counted them in Telaim, two hundred thousand footmen and ten thousand men of Judah.

ואתא שאול עד קרתא דבית עמלק וטקיס משריתיה בנחלא:
bnkhla mshrythyh wTqys emlq dbyth qrtha ed shawl watha
Saul came to the city of Amalek, and set an ambush in the valley.

ואמר שאול לשלמאה אזיל זור אתפרש מגו עמלקאה דלמא אשיצינך עמיה ואת עבדת טיבו עם כל בני ישראל במיסקהון ממצרים ואיתפרש שלמאה מגו עמלקאה:
emlqah mgw shlmah waythprsh mmtsrym bmysqhwn yshral bny kl em Tybw ebdth wath emyh ashytsynk dlma emlqah mgw athprsh zwr azyl lshlmah shawl wamr
Saul said to the Kenites, “Go, depart, go down from among the Amalekites, lest I destroy you with them; for you showed kindness to all the children of Israel when they came up out of Egypt.” So the Kenites departed from among the Amalekites.

ומחא שאול ית דבית עמלק מחוילה מעלנא דחגרא די על אפי מצרים:
mtsrym apy el dy dkhgra melna mkhwylh emlq dbyth yth shawl wmkha
Saul struck the Amalekites, from Havilah as you go to Shur, which is before Egypt.

ואחד ית אגג מלכא דבית עמלק כד חי וית כל עמא גמר לפתגם דחרב:
dkhrb lpthgm gmr ema kl wyth khy kd emlq dbyth mlka agg yth wakhd
He took Agag the king of the Amalekites alive, and utterly destroyed all the people with the edge of the sword.

וחס שאול ועמא על אגג ועל שפר ענא ותורי שמיניא ופטימיא ועל כל דטב ולא אבו לגמרותהון וכל מדעם דשיט ודבסיר יתה גמירו:
gmyrw ythh wdbsyr dshyT mdem wkl lgmrwthhwn abw wla dTb kl wel wpTymya shmynya wthwry ena shpr wel agg el wema shawl wkhs
But Saul and the people spared Agag and the best of the sheep, of the cattle, of the fat calves, of the lambs, and all that was good, and were not willing to utterly destroy them; but everything that was vile and refuse, that they destroyed utterly.

והוה פתגם נבואה מן קדם יי עם שמואל למימר:
lmymr shmwal em yy qdm mn nbwah pthgm whwh
Then Yahweh’s word came to Samuel, saying,

תבית במימרי ארי אמלכית ית שאול למהוי מלכא ארי תב מבתר פולחני וית פתגמי לא קים ותקיף לשמואל וצלי קדם יי כל ליליא:
lylya kl yy qdm wtsly lshmwal wthqyp qym la pthgmy wyth pwlkhny mbthr thb ary mlka lmhwy shawl yth amlkyth ary bmymry thbyth
“It grieves me that I have set up Saul to be king, for he has turned back from following me, and has not performed my commandments.” Samuel was angry; and he cried to Yahweh all night.

ואקדים שמואל לקדמות שאול בצפרא ואתחוא לשמואל למימר אתא שאול לכרמלא והא מתקן ליה תמן אתר לפלגא ביה ביזתא ואסתחר ועבד ונחת לגלגלא:
lglgla wnkhth webd wasthkhr byztha byh lplga athr thmn lyh mthqn wha lkrmla shawl atha lmymr lshmwal wathkhwa btspra shawl lqdmwth shmwal waqdym
Samuel rose early to meet Saul in the morning; and Samuel was told, saying, “Saul came to Carmel, and behold, he set up a monument for himself, turned, passed on, and went down to Gilgal.”

ואתא שמואל לות שאול ואמר ליה שאול בריך את קדם יי קימית ית פתגמא דיי:
dyy pthgma yth qymyth yy qdm ath bryk shawl lyh wamr shawl lwth shmwal watha
Samuel came to Saul; and Saul said to him, “You are blessed by Yahweh! I have performed the commandment of Yahweh.”

ואמר שמואל ואלו קימתא ומה קל ענא הדין באודני וקל תוריא דאנא שמע:
shme dana thwrya wql bawdny hdyn ena ql wmh qymtha walw shmwal wamr
Samuel said, “Then what does this bleating of the sheep in my ears and the lowing of the cattle which I hear mean?”

ואמר שאול מעמלקאה איתיאונון דחס עמא על שפר ענא ותורי בדיל לדבחא קדם יי אלהך וית שאר מותרא גמרנא:
gmrna mwthra shar wyth alhk yy qdm ldbkha bdyl wthwry ena shpr el ema dkhs aythyawnwn memlqah shawl wamr
Saul said, “They have brought them from the Amalekites; for the people spared the best of the sheep and of the cattle, to sacrifice to Yahweh your God. We have utterly destroyed the rest.”

ואמר שמואל לשאול אוריך ואחוי לך ית דאתמלל מן קדם יי עמי בליליא ואמר ליה מליל:
mlyl lyh wamr blylya emy yy qdm mn dathmll yth lk wakhwy awryk lshawl shmwal wamr
Then Samuel said to Saul, “Stay, and I will tell you what Yahweh said to me last night.” He said to him, “Say on.”

ואמר שמואל הלא מן שריותך הויתא שיט וחלש בעיני נפשך ברם זכות שבטא דבנימין אבוך גרמא לך די בעו למעבר בימא קדם בני ישראל בדיל כן רביך יי למהוי מלכא על ישראל:
yshral el mlka lmhwy yy rbyk kn bdyl yshral bny qdm byma lmebr bew dy lk grma abwk dbnymyn shbTa zkwth brm npshk beyny wkhlsh shyT hwytha shrywthk mn hla shmwal wamr
Samuel said, “Though you were little in your own sight, weren’t you made the head of the tribes of Israel? Yahweh anointed you king over Israel;

ושלחך יי באורחא ואמר אזיל ותגמר ית חיביא ית דבית עמלק ותגיח קרבא בהון עד דתשיצי יתהון:
ythhwn dthshytsy ed bhwn qrba wthgykh emlq dbyth yth khybya yth wthgmr azyl wamr bawrkha yy wshlkhk
and Yahweh sent you on a journey, and said, ‘Go, and utterly destroy the sinners the Amalekites, and fight against them until they are consumed.’
19
ולמא לא קבלתא למימרא דיי ואתפניתא על בזתא ועבדתא דביש קדם יי:
yy qdm dbysh webdtha bztha el wathpnytha dyy lmymra qbltha la wlma
Why then didn’t you obey Yahweh’s voice, but took the plunder, and did that which was evil in Yahweh’s sight?”

ואמר שאול לשמואל דקבלית למימרא דיי ואזלית באורחא דשלחני יי ואיתיתי ית אגג מלכא דעמלק וית עמלקאה גמרית:
gmryth emlqah wyth demlq mlka agg yth waythythy yy dshlkhny bawrkha wazlyth dyy lmymra dqblyth lshmwal shawl wamr
Saul said to Samuel, “But I have obeyed Yahweh’s voice, and have gone the way which Yahweh sent me, and have brought Agag the king of Amalek, and have utterly destroyed the Amalekites.

ואפריש עמא מן בזתא עאן ותורין קדם דיחרמון לדבחא קדם יי אלהך בגלגלא:
bglgla alhk yy qdm ldbkha dykhrmwn qdm wthwryn ean bztha mn ema waprysh
But the people took of the plunder, sheep and cattle, the best of the devoted things, to sacrifice to Yahweh your God in Gilgal.”

ואמר שמואל הא רעוא קדם יי בעלון ובנכסת קודשין כקבלא למימרא דיי הא קבלת למימריה מנכסת קודשין טב לאצתא למילי נביאוהי מתרב פטימין:
pTymyn mthrb nbyawhy lmyly latstha Tb qwdshyn mnksth lmymryh qblth ha dyy lmymra kqbla qwdshyn wbnksth belwn yy qdm rewa ha shmwal wamr
Samuel said, “Has Yahweh as great delight in burnt offerings and sacrifices, as in obeying Yahweh’s voice? Behold, to obey is better than sacrifice, and to listen than the fat of rams.

ארי כחוב גבריא דשאלין בקיסמא כן חובת כל גבר דמסרב על פתגמא דיי וכחובי עמא דטעו בתר טעותא כן חובת כל אנש דפצר ומוסיף על מילי נביא חלף דקצתא בפתגמא דיי רחקך מלמהוי מלכא:
mlka mlmhwy rkhqk dyy bpthgma dqtstha khlp nbya myly el wmwsyp dptsr ansh kl khwbth kn Tewtha bthr dTew ema wkkhwby dyy pthgma el dmsrb gbr kl khwbth kn bqysma dshalyn gbrya kkhwb ary
For rebellion is as the sin of witchcraft, and stubbornness is as idolatry and teraphim. Because you have rejected Yahweh’s word, he has also rejected you from being king.”

ואמר שאול לשמואל חבית ארי עברית על מימרא דיי ובסרית על פתגמך ארי דחלית מן עמא וקבלית למימריהון:
lmymryhwn wqblyth ema mn dkhlyth ary pthgmk el wbsryth dyy mymra el ebryth ary khbyth lshmwal shawl wamr
Saul said to Samuel, “I have sinned; for I have transgressed the commandment of Yahweh and your words, because I feared the people and obeyed their voice.

וכען שבוק כען לחובי ותוב עמי ואסגוד קדם יי:
yy qdm wasgwd emy wthwb lkhwby ken shbwq wken
Now therefore, please pardon my sin, and turn again with me, that I may worship Yahweh.”
26
ואמר שמואל לשאול לא אתוב עמך ארי קצתא בפתגמא דיי ורחקך יי מלמהוי מלכא על ישראל:
yshral el mlka mlmhwy yy wrkhqk dyy bpthgma qtstha ary emk athwb la lshawl shmwal wamr
Samuel said to Saul, “I will not return with you; for you have rejected Yahweh’s word, and Yahweh has rejected you from being king over Israel.”
27
ואיסתחר שמואל למיזל ואתקף בכנף מעיליה ואתבזע:
wathbze meylyh bknp wathqp lmyzl shmwal waysthkhr
As Samuel turned around to go away, Saul grabbed the skirt of his robe, and it tore.

ואמר ליה שמואל אעדי יי ית מלכותא דישראל מנך יומא דין ויהבה לחברך דתקן עובדיה מנך:
mnk ewbdyh dthqn lkhbrk wyhbh dyn ywma mnk dyshral mlkwtha yth yy aedy shmwal lyh wamr
Samuel said to him, “Yahweh has torn the kingdom of Israel from you today, and has given it to a neighbor of yours who is better than you.
29
ואם תימר אתוב מחובי וישתביק לי בדיל דאעביד מלכו אנא ובני על ישראל לעלם כבר גזור עלך מן קדם מרי נצחניה דישראל דלית קדמוהי שקר ולא תאיב ממה דאמר ארי לא כבני אנשא הוא דאמרין ומכדבין גזרין ולא מקימין:
mqymyn wla gzryn wmkdbyn damryn hwa ansha kbny la ary damr mmh thayb wla shqr qdmwhy dlyth dyshral ntskhnyh mry qdm mn elk gzwr kbr lelm yshral el wbny ana mlkw daebyd bdyl ly wyshthbyq mkhwby athwb thymr wam
Also the Strength of Israel will not lie nor repent; for he is not a man, that he should repent.”
30
ואמר חבית כען יקריני כען קדם סבי עמי וקדם ישראל ותוב עמי ואסגוד קדם יי אלהך:
alhk yy qdm wasgwd emy wthwb yshral wqdm emy sby qdm ken yqryny ken khbyth wamr
Then he said, “I have sinned; yet please honor me now before the elders of my people and before Israel, and come back with me, that I may worship Yahweh your God.”
31
ותב שמואל בתר שאול וסגיד שאול קדם יי:
yy qdm shawl wsgyd shawl bthr shmwal wthb
So Samuel went back with Saul; and Saul worshiped Yahweh.
32
ואמר שמואל קריבו לותי ית אגג מלכא דבית עמלק ואתא לותיה אגג מפנקא ואמר אגג בבעו רבוני מריר מותא:
mwtha mryr rbwny bbew agg wamr mpnqa agg lwthyh watha emlq dbyth mlka agg yth lwthy qrybw shmwal wamr
Then Samuel said, “Bring Agag the king of the Amalekites here to me!” Agag came to him cheerfully. Agag said, “Surely the bitterness of death is past.”
33
ואמר שמואל כמא דאתכלת נשיא חרבך כן תתכל מנשיא אמך ופשח שמואל ית אגג קדם יי בגלגלא:
bglgla yy qdm agg yth shmwal wpshkh amk mnshya ththkl kn khrbk nshya dathklth kma shmwal wamr
Samuel said, “As your sword has made women childless, so your mother will be childless among women!” Then Samuel cut Agag in pieces before Yahweh in Gilgal.

ואזל שמואל לרמתא ושאול סליק לביתיה לגבעתא דשאול:
dshawl lgbetha lbythyh slyq wshawl lrmtha shmwal wazl
Then Samuel went to Ramah; and Saul went up to his house to Gibeah of Saul.
35
ולא אוסיף שמואל למחזי ית שאול עד יום מותיה ארי אתאבל שמואל אל שאול ויי תב במימריה ארי אמליך ית שאול על ישראל:
yshral el shawl yth amlyk ary bmymryh thb wyy shawl al shmwal athabl ary mwthyh ywm ed shawl yth lmkhzy shmwal awsyp wla
Samuel came no more to see Saul until the day of his death, but Samuel mourned for Saul. Yahweh grieved that he had made Saul king over Israel.
